About Us

Thangka Atelier, based in Jiangsu, China, is a company dedicated to preserving and promoting the art of hand-painted Thangkas. We collaborate directly with Thangka masters in Tibet and Nepal, ensuring each piece adheres strictly to techniques and rituals refined over millennia. We reveal the profound depth and essence of Thangkas as religious art and visual symbols for meditation.

Refusal of printed materials and factory-produced items

We specialize in offering high-quality, handcrafted thangkas, strictly avoiding any mechanically printed or mass-produced pieces. Every Thangka we provide is authentically hand-painted, never factory-made. Each work undergoes rigorous selection, aiming to deliver traceable art treasures for collectors, art enthusiasts, and those seeking spiritual solace.

Strictly adhering to the traditional painting techniques passed down through generations

To achieve the perfect depiction of Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and other sacred figures, each Thangka is meticulously crafted according to strict standards outlined in texts such as The Sutra on the Measurements for Creating Images, The Fountainhead of Knowledge on Painting and Sculpting Sacred Images, and The Flower Garland Commentary on the Measurements of Body, Speech, and Mind. These works are created on hand-polished canvas using natural mineral and plant pigments, as well as pure gold and silver. In some cases, they are even painted with gemstones ground into pigment. Thangka paintings created with these pigments retain their resplendent, golden splendor for centuries, remaining as brilliant as the day they were made.

Re Gong: The World's Largest Capital of Thangka Art

Our company is located in Jiangsu, China. The land of China gave birth to Regong, hailed as the "world's largest capital of Thangka art." In Tibetan, "Regong" means "the golden valley where dreams come true." As one of the cradles of Tibetan culture, Regong spans a total area of 3,275 square kilometers and is home to over 24,000 Thangka painters.

Roof of the World: The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

China also gave birth to the land of Tibet. Located in the southwestern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Tibet boasts an average elevation exceeding 4,000 meters and is hailed as the "Roof of the World." Spanning approximately 1.2 million square kilometers, it features magnificent natural landscapes including renowned snow-capped mountains such as Mount Everest, Mount Kailash, and Mount Namcha Barwa.

Inheritance

Tibet boasts a rich history and culture, with Tibetan culture and Tibetan Buddhism exerting profound influence, giving rise to distinctive cultural arts such as Thangka paintings and monastery architecture. The Tibetan people are a devoutly religious ethnic group, willing to devote all their resources to create a Thangka for worship. Tibetan Buddhism is passed down through both master-disciple transmission and family lineage, and the art of Thangka painting similarly continues through these forms of inheritance.
